Food For Fines

Food for Fines starts this week in the Century College Library. April 18th- May 12th, the Century College Library will be accepting food pantry donations as payment for fines. Donated items will go to Century College Food Pantry. The Pantry is looking for nonperishable snacks or light meals.
Each donated item will be worth $1 off your existing library fines, up to $10. This is a great way to clear any library fines before registering for the Summer or Fall Semesters, while helping out fellow students. Bring items to the circulation desk and remember to bring your student ID!

Don’t have fines? Bring food anyway!

Suggested items include:
                    Granola Bars
                    Pretzels
                    Fruit Cups
                    Cereal Cups
                    Cereal Bars
                    Fruit Snacks
                    Applesauce Cups
                    100 Calorie Packs
                    Snack Mix

                    Cup of Soup

Note:
Food cannot be used to pay previously paid fines.
Expired items will not be accepted

All current students are eligible to use the Food Pantry and can visit the Food Pantry up to twice per month. The only requirement is either a student ID card or student ID number.

National Library Week 2016

Libraries Transform, National Library Week
Libraries Transform, National Library Week
Its National Library Week! What is National Library Week you ask? First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. All types of libraries - school, public, academic and special - participate.

This week Century College Library is celebrating in more way than one.
We’ve set up a chess board for our students who need a mental break from final projects.

For those needing to be creative, a table for blackout poetry is set up! What is blackout poetry? Well, You blackout all the words you DON'T want to use. Take a marker and outline the words you would like to use for your poem. Remember, the words will be read left to right and top to bottom. Once you have found the words you would like to use, black out the rest of the words on the page. The leftover poem will look like a  redacted document.

Library staff also wants to hear from our patrons. What are your favorites? Write them down on the board!
