Century Author: Bruce Hinrichs

The final author being featured by Century Library is Bruce Hinrichs.  Hinrichs is a memeber of the Century College Psychology Faculty. Many of his books can be found on reserve in the Century Library.

Bruce H. Hinrichs has been a professor of psychology for many years, was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Minnesota, an Honorary Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Teacher/Artist-in-Residence at the University of Illinois, and was a member of the Editorial Board of the NEA higher education journal, Thought & Action. Mr. Hinrichs has published on psychology, art, and film, and is the author of books including a textbook of general psychology, an introduction to cognitive neuroscience, a book on film and art, and four textbooks on psychological neuroscience. His essay on the philosophy of mind appears in the college philosophy textbook, Voices of Wisdom. Mr. Hinrichs is also the author of many short stories (mostly humorous) published in print and online. He is currently an artist working in acrylic paint on canvas, and in the past was a glass-blower presenting works of art in galleries and art shows across the Midwest, and a musician (guitar, songwriter, and singer) in The Fables and The Necroids.

Century Author: Delia Samuel

This week the Century Author being featured by Century Library is Dr. Delia Samuel. Dr. Samuel is a member of the Century College Mathematics Faculty. Her book is Against the Odds: Inspiration for Parenting Children with Special Needs.
Delia Samuel was born on the island of St. Lucia and moved to Minnesota in 2003. She holds a Master of Philosophy degree in Computer Science from the University of the West Indies, a Master of Science degree in Mathematics, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Mathematics from the University of Minnesota. She is a mathematics instructor and has taught mathematics at colleges and universities in St. Lucia and Minnesota. Presently, Dr. Samuel teaches mathematics at Century College. Courses taught include Intermediate Algebra, Introductory Trigonometry, College Algebra, Calculus I, Calculus II, Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra and Differential Equations. She was the recipient of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees Award for Outstanding Educator in April 2014 and of the Faculty of the Year Award from Century College in April 2015       
Dr. Samuel has two sons, aged 9 and 7 years, who are both on the autism spectrum and who also cope with other medical issues. The last nine years have been far from easy as she is faced with challenges every day. But in spite of the trials, she has made life work and has triumphed over the odds. She lives with her two sons in Fridley, Minnesota.

Century Author: Cullen Bailey Burns

This week the Century Author being featured by Century Library is Cullen Bailey Burns. Burns is a member the Century College English Faculty.

Cullen Bailey Burns
Cullen Bailey Burns is the author of two books of poetry, Slip and Paper Boat, both of which were finalists for Minnesota Book Awards. Her poems have been published widely, in literary magazines ranging from Ampersand to The Denver Quarterly to Rattle. She has been nominated for a Pushcart Award twice, and is currently working on her third manuscript, the title of which has her stumped.

Century Author: Greg Mulcahy


The first Century Author  being featured by Century College Library this month is Greg Mulcahy. Mulcahy is a member of the Century College English Faculty.



Greg Mulcahy’s collection, OUT OF WORK, was published by Knopf in 1993. Gordon Lish was his editor. His novel, CONSTELLATION, appeared in 1996. In 2010, his collection, CARBINE, was awarded the Juniper Prize for Fiction. His novel, O’HEARN, won the 2013 Catherine Doctorow Prize for Innovative Fiction from FC2. He has published more than 100 stories in journals.
