The Century College Library marks Banned Books Week from Sept. 25 through October 1 with a drawing for several tote bags noting, "I Read Banned Books." Enter the drawing in the library today!
The
books featured in our display case have been targets of attempted
bannings. Fortunately, while some books were banned or restricted, in a
majority of cases the books were not banned, all thanks to the efforts
of librarians, teachers, booksellers, and members of the community to
retain the books in the library collections. Come to the library and check out a banned book.
To learn more about challenges and bans, see About Banned & Challenged Books on the American Library Association web site. In 2010, ALA reported 348 challenges. You can see a list of the top ten most frequently challenged titles in 2010.
