Black History Month

February is Black History Month. The library display case is featuring an excellent collection of books on the African American Civil Rights Movement (1955-1968). Learn about the key events and main figures of this movement, and why it is important not only to the history of the United States but to world history as well. Key events of this movement include: Brown v. Board of Education, Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott, Desegregating Little Rock, Sit-ins, 1960 (50 year anniversary), Freedom Rides, Integration of Mississippi Universities, The March on Washington, Dr. King Awarded Nobel Peace Prize, The King Assassination, and Race Riots. Come to the library to see the images and events of this important and tumultuous time in recent U.S. history.
