The library display case for November is highlighting books from the library collection that feature veteran’s issues. Some of the featured topics include: returning Veterans, women in the military, military careers, and personal stories of veterans from World War II, Vietnam, and Iraq.
This Veterans Day, please take the time to thank those friends and neighbors that have served our country.

The Busy Bees stopped by the library today to collect some Halloween candy.
Our skeleton helped hand out candy at the circulation desk. (He needs to put on a little weight. Maybe the candy will help...)

Bannned Books: Why Can't I Read That?
September 30 is the beginning of Banned Books Week: time to review the many titles that have been banned, objected to, or criticized because the content was offensive (to someone or some group). Here are some examples from the Huffington Post: "Anne Frank's diary has been banned on multiple occasions. The most recent was in January 2010 when the book was pulled from a Virginia school for "sexually explicit" and "homosexual" themes." Interested in other "objectionable" titles? Check out the display in the library and take home a banned book to see for yourself what all the fuss is about!
New Look for Our Subject Guides
Having trouble figuring out which of our many online resources would be best for you? Check out the list of Subject Guides on the library's main page. Each subject guide provides access to resources for a particular topic. All of our Subject Guides are in a new tabbed format that lets you easily find books, articles, ebooks, multimedia, recommended websites, and even get help with writing and citing.

Summer Reading
Looking for a good book? Summer gives you a chance to read for pure pleasure. We won’t be giving out stickers, candy, or other prizes for finishing a book, but we will gladly offer suggestions to help you find the perfect book for you! Here are a few to consider:
American Boy by Larry Watson
Summary: On Thanksgiving Day 1962, the shooting of a young woman sets off a chain of unsettling events in Willow Falls, Minnesota, all revolving around Matthew Garth, who becomes obsessed with the shooting victim and with the lavish lifestyle of a local doctor's family.
Before I Go To Sleep by S. J. Watson
Summary: Christine wakes each morning unaware of who she is and unable to recognize the stranger in her bed. Prompted by her doctor, Christine writes a journal about her life and reads it each morning. And as fragments of her memory return, she uncovers the shocking reality of what triggered her condition.
Calico Joe by John Grisham
Summary: This story, based on the Cubs and Mets 1973 season follows the divergent paths of Joe Castle, a rookie hitter for the Chicago Cubs, and Warren Tracey, a hard-throwing Mets pitcher.

New Online Resources
With the new fiscal year, we have implemented several changes to library online resources. We have added more users to our license for Netter Reference and have added Naxos Music Library.
Netter Reference: The student tech fee now pays for a 500 user license for this Netter Anatomy resource. This should allow all our students in Rad Tech, EMS, Nursing, Dental, Biology, O&P, and any other interested department to have access. Access it through the Articles, Databases and More tab on the library home page. Just click on the Databases A-Z list.
Naxos Music Library: To supplement our Music Online streaming, we have added Naxos, the world´s largest online classical music library which offers multiple streamed versions of most works. We have only a 5 user license, so please urge your students to logout when finished. Access it through the Articles, Databases and More tab on the library home page. Just click on the Databases A-Z list.
Due to low usage, we have discontinued our access to Art Index Retrospective, which indexed articles on the arts from 1929-1984 without full text. However, we still have Art Full Text, with full text from 1997 to present and indexing from 1984 to 1996 of an international array of peer-selected publications on all aspects of the arts, including advertising, archaeology, architecture, art history, computers in art, decorative arts, fashion design, graphic arts, industrial design, interior design, landscape architecture, motion pictures, museology, non-western art, painting, photography, pottery, sculpture, television, textiles, and video.

Adventures of Sheldon
The Library recently added a copy of The Adventures of Sheldon, a
newly published children's picture book. Author Brianna Harelson first created the
Sheldon character as a clay animation for a video project in the Visual Communications
Technology program at Century. Sheldon was such a hit as a claymation
character, that when Harelson and fellow Alum Michael Berglund needed another
project idea, they decided to use the colorful indigo blue Sheldon to develop
their own children's storybook and audio track. Harelson wrote the story while
Berglund sketched and designed all the illustrations. For
more information about The Adventures of Sheldon go to http://www.agamamedia.com or view this Life to the Max video of the author reading Sheldon aloud at BusyBees Child Care.

Beware the Ides of March!
In association with the “Ides of March”, the library display case is highlighting books on murder, mystery, power, and betrayal! Check out the selections from your favorite mystery writers featuring Tom Clancy, Michael Connelly, James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell and more.
Historically the Ides of March fall on March 15 which marks the assassination of Julius Caesar after a soothsayer's warning. In modern times, the Ides of March has taken on sinister implications of menace and doom because the date has been imbued with a sense of foreboding.
Cozy up with a good mystery for the chilly month of March!
